Faux Stained Glass Spider Webs

Faux Stained Glass Spider Webs

I am always a fan of adding a little color to my holiday decor. While traditional colors for the holidays are always a hit, I like to add a little unexpected color palette to my decorations. These “stained glass” spiderwebs are a perfect way to add a little color to your Halloween decor! And since stained glass is a little tricky, these actually just use a transparent paper rather than glass. Kids can help make these spiderwebs as well, just make sure to help with the hot glue!

Supplies

  • Coffee stirrers - I had a bunch of these at home already. I would recommend coffee stirrers over popsicle sticks, because the stirrers cut easily with scissors.

  • Kite paper, vellum, or other translucent paper - I used this pack of kite paper and it worked well, but this pack is slightly cheaper and looks very similar. I wouldn’t use tissue paper as it is so thin and delicate, and may tear when taping.

  • 1/4” double sided tape - this tape from Amazon was the perfect size for my stirrers.

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks - Any glue gun will work, but I must say that I am in love with my cordless glue gun from Amazon. I love that I can charge it up, then take it anywhere I need it. No more sitting by an outlet!

  • Sharp scissors

  • Protective eye wear when cutting the stirrers

How To

I’ve put together a little video to help you make your faux stained glass spider webs!

Here are a few tips and tricks:

  • Hold the wood stirrers together until the glue has set

  • Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the stirrers down to size

  • Be careful when cutting the stirrers! Sometimes they will fling away.

  • You can use a pen to trace the kite paper to the sizes of the openings or you can eyeball it.

  • Cut the paper so that it is slightly larger than the opening so that it can be stuck to the tape. You can even have some of the kite paper overlap to create new colors!

  • Paper will be taped to the backside.

  • The double sided tape is sticky, but the kite paper can usually be repositioned if pulled away carefully from the tape.

  • Try to hide most of the tape behind each stirrer.

  • Hot glue fake spiders to the front for extra spookiness!

These spiderwebs are sure to add a little spooky color to your Halloween! The color combos are endless, and it is so fun to see the sun shining through them in a window. The spiders who live on these webs are going to love their colorful homes!
