Yarn Tied Raffia Wreath

Yarn Tied Raffia Wreath

Something about these cooler months makes me want to make cute wreaths! Maybe it’s because of all the holidays and the cute holiday wreaths, or maybe its because they can bring a level of coziness to a home, but whatever it is, I never shy away from some good wreath-making!

The first wreath tutorial for the month is inspired by a gorgeous wreath I stumbled upon on the Anthropologie website. It used rattan and string, and it was lovely. But. It was over $500! So my version is much more cost effective (think less than $20!) and you can customize it with yarn colors of your choice. You will be surprised at how simple this wreath is!

Materials

  • A macrame hoop. I used a 6” hoop for my wreath. I like this set from Amazon which comes with 10 hoops of various sizes.

  • Raffia. Keep in mind that you will probably need more than you think! I thought one bag would be enough, but I ended up using two full bags. Amazon has a few options, like this one.

  • Yarn, Omegacryl, or Embroidery Floss. I used Omegacryl because I love the selection of colors (you can find it at The Neon Tea Party). But floss or thinner yarn would work well too!

  • Scissors

  • Hot Glue

How To

I put together a quick little video showing how to make this fun wreath. It really is as simple as looping your raffia around the hoop, tying together with yarn, and hot gluing to hold each raffia “tassel” in place!

You can make this wreath using all one color of yarn or floss, or you can go all colorful! I think a wreath with all one neutral color would be beautiful!

I would recommend hanging this wreath indoors, as it is rather lightweight and could blow away on an outside door. Choose a door or wall inside your house to hang your beautiful piece of art!
